Public safety research too often treats frontline personnel as the instrument of safety and rarely as its subject. PSIL rejects that. Advancing the safety, health, and resilience of everyone who holds the public safety system together — police officers, firefighters, paramedics, corrections officers, dispatchers and 9-1-1 operators, and emergency management professionals — is central to our mandate, not a secondary benefit of it.
Too often the people behind the radio and inside the institutions are left out of that conversation. Every life lost in the line of duty is a reminder of what is at stake, and the resilience of the systems that protect Canadians is inseparable from the wellbeing of the people who run them.
PSIL welcomes partnership with the institutions, associations, and foundations committed to this work, and actively pursues funding for rigorous, independent research that makes frontline service safer.
